ALLISON HUNTER: NEW ANIMALS

ALLISON HUNTER: NEW ANIMALS

MARCH 24 – AUGUST 17, 2007
Opening Reception: SATURDAY MARCH 24, 6-8pm

January 23, 2007 — MKG Art Management, LLC, a Houston-based art-advising firm, is pleased to present Allison Hunter: New Animals. The exhibit will open to the public with a reception for the artist on Saturday, March 24 from 6-8 p.m. Exhibition hours are Monday through Friday, from 9-5.

In a continuation of the series, Simply Stunning, Allison’s new and recent photography examines her world in conceptual and experiential ways by creating staged environments for her imagery. Like her previous works, she positions images of animals amidst artificial backgrounds. She expandsthat model by including more animals in each frame and at the same time, looks for more consistent relationships between the animals and the backgrounds she constructs. We often make assumptions that have not been truly examined or confirmed – Allison Hunter challenges the weight of our assumptions with works that attempt to find a way to reflect and extract the metaphysical qualities of things and distill their private experiences — as if to say, “things are not always what they seem.” We are positioned to gaze intimately at these images that are temporary, typically ignored, or distorted by memory. There is something vaguely seen — a feeling or force that is felt but that is not openly revealed or expressed.

Allison Hunter received her MFA from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and received a Diplome from the Ecole Cantonale d’Art de Lusanne in Switzerland. She has exhibited at 511 Gallery in New York, the University of Massachusetts, The Open-Air Art Museum at Pedvale, Latvia, Houston Center for Photography, Islip Art Museum, Europas Parkas Museum in Latvia, The Center for Fine Art Photography in Fort Collins and the University Art Museum at SUNY, Albany. Hunter writes for national publications such as Sculpture, Glasstire, and HOW. Allison lives and works in Houston, Texas.
