Happy Summer!
In May, MKG Art Management celebrated 21 years of bringing exceptional art advising and appraisal services to our clients. We are proud to launch our updated website, which features some of our favorite projects.
Check it out by clicking here.
Some of our projects include revitalizing corporate art collections by acquiring new pieces, re-framing and re-installing existing works, and de-accessing art that no longer fits into an updated collection. For example, at a Houston based law firm, we reviewed their existing collection, selected works that could be updated by reframing and new installation design, and we added colorful and dynamic artwork to complement their new renovated space.
A pair of framed prints by Jacob Hashimoto, well known for his intricate rice paper kite installations, add color to the servery. Rusty Scruby‘s unique photographic reconstruction (left) and Chris Barnard‘s bold, gestural painting (right) add interest on the central stair landing.
MKG recently completed another private collection in Houston that features hard-edged pieces to complement and bring color to the minimalist, contemporary interior. A Dieter Balzer geometric wall sculpture enhances the bar with bright, complex, overlapping elements.
Regine Schumann‘s acrylic wall sculpture absorbs and reflects natural light, changing color throughout the day. In the adjacent living room, a more subtle John Sparagana painting explores the modernist notion of the abstract grid.
Stay tuned for major new projects coming up this Fall 2019!
Summer Happenings
Cool off from the heat and check out William Forsythe: Choreographic Objects exhibition at the Museum of Fine Arts Houston. Through three immersive installations, choreographer William Forsythe explores how people move between time and space with experiences such as swinging pendulums or an interactive video wall.
Celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the man on the moon and Houston’s crucial role in space exploration this summer. Check out Visit Houston for events and attractions including MKG’s commissioned mural in Rice Village, Space City, by local artist Michael Rodriguez.
- Derrick Velasquez (b. 1982) lives and works in Denver, Colorado. Velasquez is a multidisciplinary artist that uses common materials to investigate new forms. In his Untitled series, the artist organically stacks marine vinyl on precut wood. Eventually the multi-colored and many layered vinyl shifts into a curved shape transforming into an entirely new construction. Derrick Velazquez is represented by Pentimenti Gallery in Philadelphia and Robischon Gallery in Denver.
- Janaina Tschape was born in Munich, Germany, in 1973 and now lives and works in New York. Working across a variety of mediums, the artist explores her interest in mythology as well as the natural and aquatic world. Tschape meticulously creates her nuanced landscapes with aqueous layers of color and amorphous forms. Janaina Tschape is represented by Sean Kelly Gallery in New York.
- Maria Fernanda Cardoso (B. 1964) is a Columbian artist that currently lives and works in Sydney, Australia. Cardoso combines scientific research with her artistic production. Her most recent prints magnify a tiny jumping spider of the Marutus species, not only to examine the creature on a microscopic level, but to connect its biological aesthetics with performance art. Maria Fernanda Cardoso is represented by Sicardi Gallery in Houston.
- Stephen Eichhorn (B. 1982) lives and works in Chicago. The artist creates intricately detailed paper collages of plants from historical botany books. Eichhorn’s recent collages layer images of plants and minerals into monochromatic and geometric forms to mesmerizing effect. Stephen Eichhorn is represented by Carrie Secrist Gallery in Chicago.
